Hezbollah and Lebanon agree on the US draft truce – “It now depends on Israel”

and agree on principle in the US draft on the ceasefire in the region with Israel, according to Reuters citing a Lebanese official. Despite both Hezbollah and Lebanon having concrete proposals to amend the American plan to cease fire with Israel, the Lebanese official acknowledges that the recent US truce proposal is the most serious effort he has to put an end to hostilities, with the Reuters news agency reporting that there was no comment from Israel’s side. It is quite likely that there will finally be a ceasefire in Lebanon, two months after Israel attacked Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shia organization supported by Iran, which has lost most of its arsenal but also a vast number of members of its political and military leadership, culminating in Hassan Nasrala’s historic leader. Ali Hassan Khalil , an assistant to Parliament’s president, Nabi Berry, revealed that Lebanon responded positively to the US proposal and now the White House envoy, Amos Hohstein , is traveling to Beirut to further advance negotiations to achieve a ceasefire in the country. It is noted that Hezbollah has trusted the president of the Lebanese Parliament to take over the negotiations, with his closest partner stating features that the US proposal now depends on Israel, “which constantly finds various excuses not to end hostilities”, as he argued. If Hohstein-Lebanon contacts are positive, then the White House special envoy will travel to Israel tomorrow (20.11.2024) to continue contacts with the Israeli side. According to the Israeli news channel Ynet , the US believes there is more than 50% chance of reaching an agreement. The draft US proposal, leaked by Israeli public broadcaster Kan earlier this month, concerns the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, approved in 2006 to end Lebanon’s Second War and provides for Hezbollah’s disarmament and the withdrawal of militants north of the Litani River. It also includes a 60-day transitional period during which Israel’s military forces will leave southern Lebanon and at the same time the country’s army will develop near the border with Israel, effectively replacing Hezbollah’s presence in the region.
