Back to jail go the 26-year-old mother of the late Angelos, who endured savage treatment until his death in Crete, and her 44-year-old partner after their supplementary defense regarding the horrific crime. The two accused were transferred under extreme secrecy to the Police Headquarters in Heraklion where the examining magistrate had also arrived, as there was a risk of incidents following the brutal abuse of the young Angelos that led to his death. “I have raised a 12-year-old daughter. I never thought of harming a strange 3-year-old child. I realized that Angelos’s mother was hitting him. I told her not to push him, not to hit him on the head. My biggest mistake was not reporting her in time, and I bitterly regret it. I believed she would improve, but she got worse. That morning of January 26th, the child came down pale and disoriented. I heard a noise; he probably hit the table and fell unconscious. I didn’t know what to do, I splashed water on his face and called for help. I was close to going mad. If something had happened to the child’s health and I knew, I would have taken him to the hospital myself,” stated the 44-year-old during his defense. After completing their statements, it was decided to remand them again for the charge of premeditated murder. Speaking on Mega TV’s ‘Developments Now’ broadcast, the lawyer of the 44-year-old, Vasilis Noulezas, mentioned that his client reported seeing the mother mistreating the 3-year-old boy on several occasions. However, as the child’s mother claims, she suffers from intellectual disability. “The mother is suffering from some illness. My client states that he noticed she was hitting him, he had made a comment, but he failed to do the obvious—to report her and save the child,” said the lawyer.
