An alarming incident occurred in Heraklion, Crete, where a 58-year-old man allegedly attempted to suffocate an 8-year-old boy with a pillow after becoming irritated by the child’s voice. The suspect has been arrested and is scheduled to appear before the public prosecutor on Friday, 3 July 2026, to provide his statement.

Break-in During Parents’ Absence

According to the mother’s complaint—reported via cretalive.gr—the man was renting the apartment to the family. Frustrated by the noise from the 8-year-old and his 11-year-old brother, he reportedly entered the apartment while the parents were away. Once inside, he struck the younger child in the face and then attempted to suffocate him using a pillow.

Charges Escalated to Attempted Homicide

Although the initial investigation focused on charges of bodily harm and disturbance of public peace, prosecutors have since filed criminal charges against the suspect for attempted homicide—a significantly more serious offense. He is expected to face the prosecutor this Friday as part of the judicial process.
