In Heraklion, Crete, doctors successfully removed a metal spring from the throat of an 11-month-old infant who had swallowed it from a pen. The child’s parents rushed him to the Venizelio General Hospital in Heraklion as soon as they realized what had happened. According to patris.gr, medical staff there determined that urgent transfer to the University Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI) was necessary.

The infant was transported by EKAB ambulance to PAGNI, where ENT specialists—though not on duty—immediately responded to assist. The child was taken directly to the operating room, and surgeons successfully retrieved the object from his pharynx.
