Hemorrhagic Fever: Doctor Discharged After Contracting Virus from Deceased Farmer

in

The doctor who was hospitalized with Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever after coming into contact with a 72-year-old farmer from Elasona, who later died from the same disease, has been discharged from the University Hospital in Larissa. She is now in good health following her treatment. According to Dr. Georgia Papadamou, a physician and emergency medicine specialist at the hospital, the viral load of the infected doctor dropped significantly, allowing for a safe recovery and release from medical care.

Speaking to ‘LarissaPress,’ Dr. Papadamou confirmed that there was no further spread of the virus within the hospital. However, she noted that some doctors and nurses who had also come into contact with the deceased patient remain under surveillance. They are awaiting the completion of a 14-day monitoring period, during which molecular tests will determine whether they have cleared the virus.

This case highlights the risks healthcare workers face when dealing with rare but deadly diseases like Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, especially in rural areas where patients may be initially misdiagnosed due to limited awareness.
