Residents are urged to exercise heightened caution following a warning from the Hellenic Police (ELAS) about a new online scam targeting unsuspecting users. According to ELAS, fraudsters have created a counterfeit website—astynomiiia.cc—designed to closely mimic the official Hellenic Police website in order to deceive the public.

Fake Site Mimics Official Authority

The fraudulent site prompts visitors to enter personal and banking information under the false pretense of paying a supposed traffic violation fine. ELAS stresses that this website is not affiliated with the Greek police in any way and urges citizens not to submit any personal or financial data through it.

Key Safety Recommendations

ELAS advises the public to:

  • Always verify they are on the official website: www.astynomia.gr — the only legitimate online platform of the Hellenic Police;
  • Avoid clicking on links received via SMS, email, or messaging apps unless their source has been independently confirmed;
  • Never make payments or disclose sensitive information on unofficial sites.

What to Do If You’ve Already Shared Information

If someone has already entered personal or banking details on the fake site, ELAS recommends immediately contacting their bank to secure accounts and cards, and reporting the incident to local police authorities.

Authorities reiterate: The Hellenic Police will never request sensitive personal or financial information via unofficial websites or unsolicited digital communications.
