In a major operation against drug trafficking, the Hellenic Police (ELAS) dismantled a cocaine distribution network operating across multiple areas of Attica. The operation culminated in the arrest of nine individuals—aged between 24 and 49—including the alleged ringleader, a 39-year-old man of Albanian origin believed to have directed and coordinated the group’s activities.
Operation Details and Arrests
The raid took place on the morning of June 10, 2026, led by Athens’ Sub-Directorate for the Investigation and Detection of Criminal Acts, with support from the Organized Crime Unit (OPKE) and the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (EKAM). Authorities searched several hideouts and storage locations used by the organization, resulting in the seizure of narcotics, cash, firearms, and operational equipment.
Nine suspects were arrested and charged with participation in a criminal organization, drug trafficking, weapons law violations, money laundering, forgery, and breaches of immigration legislation. Five additional individuals have been identified and remain at large.
Structure and Modus Operandi
According to investigators, the ring had been operating in an organized manner since at least December 2025. At its core stood the 39-year-old alleged leader, supported by three deputies responsible for distributing cocaine to lower-level members—who handled retail sales to end users. While the leader and one deputy were apprehended, two others are still being sought.
To evade detection, the group employed sophisticated counter-surveillance tactics:
- Encrypted messaging apps on mobile phones;
- Coded language—using terms like meat, steak, beer, things, pieces, thin, white, gunpowder, and dust to refer to cocaine; crack cocaine was called stone or pebble;
- Referring to euros as lek—the official currency of Albania;
- Frequent switching of mobile phone lines, using so-called ‘operational’ devices.
Seizures and Estimated Profits
Among the items seized were:
- 827.1 grams of cocaine;
- A small quantity of cannabis;
- Three pistols;
- A magazine from a military rifle;
- 119 rounds of ammunition;
- Multiple operational mobile phones;
- Five vehicles used in drug distribution;
- €14,505 and $470 USD;
- Three radios;
- Seven high-precision digital scales;
- A baton, pepper spray, and three knives.
The total illicit proceeds generated by the group are estimated to exceed €900,000. All arrested individuals have been brought before the competent prosecutor.
