Heavy Rain and Storms Expected in Greece: Be Prepared This Weekend

While today may feel like summer, significant weather changes are forecasted starting Sunday, May 25, 2025. Renowned meteorologist Theodoris Kolydas has warned the public about an impending period of bad weather expected to hit Greece. In his post, he emphasized that special attention should be paid in Central and Northern Greece due to a well-organized frontal system passing through the region. He noted that the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) had highlighted the potential for severe weather conditions over the next two days.

The weather forecast predicts rain and scattered storms across western, central, and northern Greece, gradually affecting the entire country. Strong weather phenomena are likely during the afternoon in Sterea Hellas, Thessaly, Sporades, and Macedonia, extending into Thrace by evening. Improved weather conditions are expected overnight in western areas, but African dust transport is likely in eastern and southern regions. Winds will range from 4 to 7 Beaufort, with temperatures dropping significantly, especially in the west, center, and north.

On Monday, May 26, 2025, rainfall and sporadic storms are expected in Central and Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the islands of the Eastern Aegean, possibly strong in some places until midday. Temporary cloudy skies with local showers are also anticipated elsewhere, particularly in eastern mainland areas and the Cyclades. By Tuesday, May 27, clouds with local showers are forecasted in Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the northeastern island group, continuing into the afternoon. Overall, fewer clouds are expected elsewhere, though temporary increases are possible in the afternoons, mainly in mountainous regions.

By Wednesday, May 28, periodic cloudiness will persist, with localized showers or downpours expected in the afternoons in mainland areas. Wind speeds will remain moderate to strong, while temperatures will stabilize without significant fluctuations.
