Heatwave Melts Italy – Four Deaths in Recent Days

in

The heatwave continues to sweep across Italy, with 18 cities placed on ‘red alert’ today (02/07/2025), and at least 20 cities expected to be under similar conditions by Friday. Since the beginning of the week, four people have lost their lives due to the extreme temperatures affecting Italy and Central Europe. The latest victim was a 70-year-old man found dead in his truck near the city of Brescia this morning after suffering a heart attack during the night. High temperatures also contributed to a series of wildfires in the Molise region of central Italy. Thanks to swift action by emergency services, they were brought under control in record time. In regions led by Turin, Venice, and Milan, measures have been adopted prohibiting outdoor work from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM on high-alert days. Today, the Italian government is meeting with national unions to agree on support measures for workers and businesses that have limited or halted operations. Meanwhile, there are concerns over cases of fainting among singers and performers rehearsing shows at the Arena di Verona. Artists urgently requested new protective health measures, and management responded that actions have already been initiated.
