The upcoming days will bring a distinctly summer-like weather pattern to Greece, with prolonged heat expected until Monday of the Holy Spirit, June 9. The warmest period is forecasted from Thursday, June 5, through Sunday, June 8. As we enter June, the weather has already begun to change, but an intense heatwave is anticipated from Thursday through Monday of the Holy Spirit, with temperatures potentially reaching up to 36°C in certain areas.
Temperatures are set to rise significantly starting Wednesday, June 4, and this trend will be felt across most of the country. However, the peak heat will occur between Thursday and Sunday. During these days, the highest temperatures will be recorded in inland continental regions, while coastal and island areas can expect maximum temperatures to be 3-4 degrees lower.
Forecaster Theodoros Kolydas predicts that temperatures could reach 34°C on Wednesday, with highs of 35-36°C expected in parts of Macedonia, Thessaly, Central Greece, and the Peloponnese over the weekend. Meteorologist Christina Riga of MEGA TV forecasts even hotter conditions, with temperatures possibly climbing to 37°C.
Weather conditions are expected to remain sunny and clear throughout the week, with occasional cloud formations in mountainous areas during afternoons. Winds will generally blow from northern directions, keeping humidity levels relatively low. Coastal and island areas will experience refreshing breezes, though inland regions should prepare for scorching midday heat.
This heatwave is expected to last until early next week, making it one of the earliest extended hot spells of the season. Despite the high temperatures, meteorologists emphasize that this is not yet at ‘heatwave’ levels typically seen later in summer.
