Heatwave Arrives: Three-Day Scorcher Set to Hit Greece’s Largest Cities

A wave of African heat is set to hit Greece starting Wednesday, June 25, 2025, lasting for three days. Temperatures are expected to soar up to 8 degrees higher than usual for this time of year. The peak of the heatwave will occur on Friday, according to meteorologist Yiannis Kallianos in a Facebook post. The highest temperatures are forecasted to reach up to 42°C in some areas. Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Heraklion, and Larissa are all bracing for extreme heat, with temperatures expected to climb significantly by Friday. By Saturday, a slight cooldown is anticipated. However, northern Greece may experience localized storms or thunderstorms from noon onwards on Friday. Meteorological data suggests that approximately one-eighth of Chios Island has been affected by recent fires, highlighting the severity of environmental conditions. Overall, the weather will remain clear but intensely hot until the weekend when temperatures begin to drop.
