Heatwave Alert: Three-Day African Heatwave Brings Temperatures Over 40°C

Starting from tomorrow, Wednesday (June 25, 2025), Greece will experience a scorching heatwave originating from Africa. Meteorologists warn that the weather will drastically change for at least three days, with temperatures soaring across the country. While Greeks are somewhat accustomed to 38-40°C, the mercury may reach up to 42°C, posing risks to vulnerable groups. Thursday and Friday are expected to be the hottest days. Areas such as Aetolia-Acarnania, Serres, Kilkis, and Thessaly could hit 41°C on Thursday, while Attica might reach 40°C on Friday. Larissa’s temperatures could fluctuate between 40-42°C. The heat is forecasted to gradually subside by Saturday. General weather conditions today show clear skies nationwide, with local clouds forming over mountainous areas in Macedonia and Epirus in the afternoon. Winds will blow from northern directions at 3-5 Beaufort, with temperatures rising to 35-36°C in mainland regions and eastern Aegean islands. On Wednesday, similar conditions persist with slight increases in temperature, peaking at 37-39°C in inland areas. By Thursday and Friday, thermometers will hit record highs before cooling slightly by Saturday.
