Following the refreshing showers and thunderstorms of recent days, an incoming heatwave from North Africa is expected to turn up the heat across Greece over the next 48 hours. The weather will be scorching, with temperatures locally exceeding 40°C. Temperatures are set to gradually rise starting Tuesday (June 24, 2025), reaching up to 37°C. By Wednesday, the weather will intensify further, according to forecaster Yiannis Kallianos in a social media post about the impending heatwave.
The forecast indicates that hot air masses from North Africa will cover the entire Mediterranean region, leading to a heatwave lasting between 3 to 4 days. Attempting to predict the temperatures in major Greek cities, it was mentioned that Athens could hit 40°C by Friday, while Larissa might reach 42°C.
Weather conditions are expected to improve by Sunday, with more pleasant temperatures until Monday, peaking at 32-34°C in mainland areas. However, starting Tuesday, June 24, temperatures will significantly rise, reaching 35-37°C in mainland regions and 30-34°C on the islands. From Wednesday onward, temperatures will soar due to the influence of hot air masses from North Africa.
