Heating allowance: Who receive it, what are the criteria and how it is calculated

Applications for the heating allowance shall continue on a final date for the submission of applications to be Friday (6.12.2024). It is recalled that the amount of the allowance this year ranges from EUR 100 to EUR 800. There are increases that depend on the temperature of the region. Example: It increases by 25% for areas facing severe cold and can reach 1,200 euros for areas facing even more difficult weather conditions. This year’s calculation base is increased for electricity to 380 euros from 350 euros, which was last year. 300 euros is for oil, for gas is 325 euros, for firewood and district heating 300 euros, and for pellets is 350 euros. The income criteria are 16,000 euros for the unmarried, 24,000 euros for married and we have +5,000 euros for each child. The assets are 200,000 euros for singles, 260,000 euros for married people, and here there is an increase of 40,000 euros for each child. The first payment is expected to be made by December 23rd. The payment will be made in two instalments. Old beneficiaries will receive 60% of last year’s oil and other fuel allowance, or 100% of the electricity allowance, but provided it does not exceed 60% of this year’s first instalment. The new beneficiaries, those applying for the heating allowance this year will receive 50% of the allowance with a minimum amount of 80 euros. The second instalment will be paid for oil and other fuels by 30 May and will cover a period of consumption from 1/10/24 to 31/3/25. For natural gas and for the consumption of the same period, the second instalment is expected to be paid by 30 July.
