In a recent interview with SKAI, Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis discussed the government’s plans for tax reductions expected to be announced in September during the Thessaloniki Event. The final decisions by the EU regarding the activation of the escape clause for defense spending will significantly impact the extent of possible tax cuts. “We are studying a plan for tax reductions. Announcements are expected from the prime minister in September,” stated Hatzidakis. He emphasized that the bolder the decision on defense, the greater the margin for tax relief. Significant announcements for consistent taxpayers are anticipated in September. Additionally, Hatzidakis mentioned a substantial increase in the minimum wage and accompanying allowances, as well as public employee salaries in April. Regarding the DBRS upgrade of Greece’s economy, he noted it was achieved under challenging conditions. On the Tempi scandal, Hatzidakis admitted to handling mistakes but criticized the opposition for exploiting the issue.
