Harrowing Explosion of E-Bike Battery Shocks Heraklion Home

A home in Heraklion looks like a warzone, with smoke spreading everywhere after what seemed like an explosion. However, it wasn’t a Molotov cocktail but rather the battery of an electric bike that caused chaos. “The battery exploded while charging,” said the father and son from Heraklion, describing their unimaginable ordeal that has left them sleepless. The young man had charged the battery earlier in the morning and placed it on the edge near the entrance. After heading to the bathroom, he heard a loud bang and saw the battery sparking and moving around the living room. The explosion left him injured, burning his foot and hand as flames shot out from the bottom of the battery. In his own words, “I saw the battery behaving like fireworks.” He quickly grabbed it and threw it onto the balcony before extinguishing it with a bottle of water from the fridge. A specialist explained during Live News that users must always monitor the charging process and adhere strictly to manufacturer safety guidelines. Mechanical engineer George Karameris emphasized the importance of following these rules to avoid such incidents.
