Following Marinus Skandamis, another prominent PASOK figure is reportedly set to join ELAS (Hellenic Left Coalition), the new political initiative led by former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. According to reports, Haris Liouris — regional councillor for Epirus and a long-standing PASOK member aligned with Manolis Christodoulakis — has already submitted his resignation to party leader Charilaos Trikoupis.
A Focus on the Primary Sector
Liouris is expected to formally join ELAS as part of an effort to build a leadership core with strong ties to Greece’s primary sector — particularly agriculture. Sources indicate that his participation will be officially announced on Saturday, 27 June 2026, during ELAS’s National Council meeting, where he is scheduled to attend as a member.
Broadening the Coalition
This move marks another development in the ongoing realignment within Greece’s centre-left political space. As ELAS seeks to expand its appeal beyond its SYRIZA roots, its leadership is placing particular emphasis on recruiting experienced figures familiar with rural and agricultural policy. Tsipras is said to view the primary sector as a cornerstone of ELAS’s broader political platform — aiming to position it as a central pillar of the coalition’s policy agenda.
