Handcuffs to 60-year-old for “piracy” of subscription channels: How the authorities dug him out

For “ ” a 60 – year – old man was arrested by the Electronic Crime DEA. He was transmitting football matches of subscription channels for a fee. At the expense of the 60-year-old who was arrested for television piracy, a case-file was drawn up for infringement of intellectual property law and for the protection of subscription services. A complaint was lodged, according to which a stranger went on to illegally broadcast live football games and movies, without a relevant license, while advertising his services online, against a financial fee in the form of a subscription. The above was taken into account by the Athens Court of First Instance and a preliminary examination was ordered. A methodical and thorough investigation followed and after an analysis of the resulting digital data, the 60-year-old’s involvement in the case was established. From a survey at his home in an area of Attica, in the presence of a judicial officer, it was found that the use of unauthorised equipment and the retransmission of contents of two subscription companies, without legal assistance and permission. In particular, they were found and seized: * 10 IPTV Android Box, of which 2 were modified suitable for communication with illegal platforms – servers for broadcasting television channels, * 8 USB, in which there was installed software for illegal customization of IPTV Boxes, * mobile phone, laptop and * 3 hard drives. The arrester was taken to the competent prosecutor and referred to an Inquisitor, while the confiscated digital evidence will be sent to the Criminal Investigation Division for laboratory examination.
