Hamas: “We are ready for contacts with the Trump government”

A few hours before his shocking statements on the Gaza Strip its representatives were reportedly open to talks with the American president. The Palestinian Islamist Hamas movement would be willing to hold talks with US President Donald Trump’s government, said a member of his leading team at the Russian news agency RIA as part of an interview that he was granted and broadcast in the early hours of the morning, but it seems to have been given before last night’s Republican shock announcement about Gaza, two weeks after his return to the White House. CORVERSE “We are ready for contacts with the Trump government,” assured Musa Abu Marzuk, a member of Hamas’ political office, the RIA as part of an interview he granted to the Russian news agency and broadcast today. “In the past we have not objected to contacting his government (former US President Joe) Biden, Trump, or any other, we are open to talks with all parties at international level,” he said. It is not clear when the agency took the interview with Musa Abu Marzuk, who was in Moscow Monday yesterday for talks with Russian Foreign Ministry officials. However, it was certainly granted before American President Trump declared last Tuesday night that he wants the US to “take control” of the Gaza Strip, the Palestinians living there (2.4 million pre-war) to relocate to other states and the enclave to develop economically. Plan completely broken with the American policy of the past decades for the Middle East. Mr Marjouk also told the RIA that holding talks is in practice considered necessary by Hamas, bearing in mind that the US is a key player in the Middle East. “That is why we would welcome talks with the Americans and not object to them,” he added.
