Hamas Seeks Comprehensive Peace Agreement to End Gaza Conflict

In recent months, Hamas has found itself backed into a corner as Israel intensifies its airstrikes and military operations in the Gaza Strip. On Tuesday (May 6, 2025), Hamas officials emphasized that under current conditions, peace negotiations with Israel regarding a ceasefire in Gaza are meaningless. However, a leading member of the Islamic Palestinian organization stated on Wednesday (May 7, 2025) that Hamas desires a ‘comprehensive and holistic agreement’ to end the conflict in Gaza. The same official rejected efforts to impose a partial agreement ahead of Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East. According to Basem Naim, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, ‘Hamas insists on the necessity of reaching a comprehensive and complete agreement to end the war.’ He further added that they reject desperate attempts to impose a partial agreement before Trump’s visit to the region. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas announced the death of one of its leaders from an Israeli strike in Sidon, southern Lebanon, which Israel confirmed. Despite the November ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, this attack highlights ongoing tensions. The Lebanese national news agency ANI reported earlier that a man lost his life in an Israeli strike targeting a car near Imam Ali Square in Sidon. The Israeli military confirmed it had targeted the area and neutralized Khalid Ahmad Ahmad, head of operations for Hamas’ Western Brigade in Lebanon.
