Hakan Fidan: Turkey’s Crucial Role in Ukraine and European Security

Turkey’s Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, emphasized the country’s significant contribution to both a potential peace agreement in Ukraine and the reconstruction of Europe’s security architecture. According to Fidan, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has a vision for peace in Ukraine and security across Europe. Speaking to journalists after the conclusion of the London meeting of Ukraine’s allied countries, Fidan described the session as crucial. He noted that recent U.S. positions have sparked differing opinions within the European Union. Discussions are ongoing about how European leaders who recently visited the United States can reconvene and take further action. Future meetings are expected to occur more frequently, possibly every two or three weeks instead of every two to six months. Fidan stated that the U.S. policy has raised questions among European leaders, particularly concerning Ukraine and overall European security. ‘We will all see together whether there will be a peace agreement in Ukraine and if Europe will have a new security architecture in this context,’ Fidan concluded.
