The announced that it declared a 24-hour general on 9 April 2025 for the triptych “accuracy, housing crisis/wages, collective bargaining”. As the GSC reports in its communication on the strike it declared on 9 April, ‘accuracy continues to be recorded in public opinion surveys as the number-one problem of citizens, which mainly affects employees, by consuming their income. CORVERSE The government refuses to listen to our proposals for social housing and the use of best practices in other countries to address the housing crisis, resulting in, as is apparent from the interim report of the Institute of Labour (IE/GSEE) on the economy, 1/3 of the population paying over 40% of its income, to cover housing costs. The failure to restore a fair framework for collective bargaining and the continuation of the formation of the minimum wage by a father-state (practice which forced the GSEE to withdraw from the relevant OMD process) has led to the collapse of the citizens’ purchasing power. The coverage of workers from Collective Labour Contracts (CLOs) is around 24% compared to 80%, required by EU Directive 2022/2041. The increase in wages goes only through the restoration of free collective bargaining.” “On the grounds that the grand, spontaneous mobilizations of citizens for the Tempe tragedy should not be used for any expediency, beyond this vindication of the struggle of happy parents and the memory of wrongful victims, the Confederation is awaiting the actions of the Parents’ Association and the disclosure of relevant findings, in order to support what they decide, since they have both proven knowledge and social acceptance in their demands, even by strike action, if necessary,” the GSC notes.
