Greek Tourism Ministry Restricts Motorhomes to Organized Campsites

in

The Greek Tourism Ministry has announced that motorhomes and caravans can only be parked in organized campsites, according to a new law. This measure aligns with regulations in other tourism-focused countries, ensuring public health, safety, and environmental protection. The ministry emphasized the importance of protecting public interest and legality. Under the new rules, visitors with motorhomes must use certified businesses that meet hygiene and safety standards as well as urban and environmental requirements. This move aims to prevent misuse of forests, beaches, archaeological sites, and other public spaces by motorhomes. Furthermore, the regulation is consistent with previous legislation from 1976 and 2014, which prohibited camping or parking motorhomes in such areas. Additionally, overnight stays are limited to 24 hours in inhabited areas unless designated by local municipalities. Free parking for one motorhome is allowed, but further usage requires establishing a business. This step intends to curb illegal activities against licensed campsite operators.
