Greek Police Clarifies Officer’s Suicide Not Linked to Tempi Train Disaster

The Hellenic Police issued a clarification today (June 6, 2025) regarding the alleged connection between the suicide of an officer at the Criminal Investigation Directorate and the Tempi train disaster. Following various posts on social media linking the two tragic incidents, the police headquarters emphasized that ‘publications attempting to connect the officer’s death with the Tempi case do not correspond to reality.’ The statement further clarified that the deceased officer, who was 36 years old and a father, had never been involved in issues related to the digital evidence examination from the Tempi train accident investigation. The officer served in a different department within the Criminal Investigation Directorate and had no involvement or responsibility concerning the examination or certification of digital evidence. The police strongly condemned attempts to link this tragic event, which has shocked the Greek police force and its broader community, to baseless assumptions. Such efforts are not only spreading false news but also disrespecting the memory of the deceased, his family’s dignity, and the respect owed to any human loss. The officer ended his life using his service weapon inside the building’s guard office last Sunday morning for reasons yet unknown.
