Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis Moves to Expel MP Dimitris Kyriazis Over Offensive Comment

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has referred MP Dimitris Kyriazis to the Ethics Committee of New Democracy with a view to expulsion, following an offensive remark directed at Zoi Konstantopoulou. Mitsotakis communicated with Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis, requesting him to inform Kyriazis that unless he apologizes to Konstantopoulou for his comment, ‘go have a baby,’ expulsion will proceed. Earlier, this statement and refusal to apologize sparked strong reactions from Maria Zacharakis, Thanos Pleuris, and the entire Parliament. The announcement of Kyriazis’s referral was made by Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis, who apologized to Konstantopoulou and all women on behalf of the House. A decision regarding expulsion will be announced by Monday. The incident began when Konstantopoulou was addressing the parliament. President Odysseas Constantinopoulos immediately called for an apology from Kyriazis, which was not forthcoming. Various political figures condemned the comment, emphasizing respect for women and professional conduct.
