The taxi driver spoke almost no English and had the radio on very loudly with a broadcast of a soccer match between Arsenal and Olympiakos. We flew past almost every other vehicle on the road, with H itching to say something and me trying to distract his attention to the speed by pointing out landmarks along the way In fact the car was a Mercedes and very comfortable and I felt our soccer mad “Michael” was a good driver, and we made the long trip into town in about half an hour. We had booked the Polis Grand on the internet because it was reputed to have a wonderful view from the roof garden, so as soon as we had dumped our bags, and squealed with delight at the little balcony with the view of the Acropolis, we headed upstairs and were blown away by the magnificent views of the Acropolis in one direction and Lykavittos Hill in the other.(see pics) Sep 30 A day for doing the normal touristy stuff ie finding out how to use the excellent Metro system (3.20 euro for a day ticket) walking and walking and walking to, up and around the Acropolis.
