Another successful interception was carried out by Greek-operated Patriot air defense systems deployed in Saudi Arabia. Following the recent downing of two ballistic missiles, it has now been confirmed that the Greek contingent also shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) launched from Yemen.
Interception Near Yanbu
According to the Greek Ministry of National Defence, the Patriot missile battery intercepted the drone at 11:10 a.m. local Greece time on Saturday, 25 July 2026, near the coastal city of Yanbu — where the Greek force is stationed.
Operational Compliance and Mission Context
The engagement was conducted in full compliance with established Rules of Engagement, as part of Greece’s contribution to strengthening Saudi Arabia’s air defence under the multinational Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) initiative.
This latest operation follows a previous successful interception, during which the same Greek Patriot unit neutralized two ballistic missiles fired from Yemen toward a critical infrastructure site in the Yanbu area.
The Hellenic Joint Task Force Abroad (ELDYSA) continues its mission as a key component of the broader international IAMD framework, supporting regional air defence stability.
