Another success has been achieved by the Greek Patriot air defense systems deployed in Saudi Arabia. Following the interception of two ballistic missiles earlier this week, it was confirmed that the Greek contingent successfully shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) launched from Yemen.
Drone Downing Near Yanbu
According to Greece’s Ministry of National Defence, the Patriot battery engaged and destroyed the drone at 11:10 a.m. local time on Saturday, 25 July 2026, near the coastal city of Yanbu — where the Greek force is stationed.
The engagement was conducted in strict accordance with established Rules of Engagement, as part of the mission of the Hellenic Force in Saudi Arabia (ELDYSA), which aims to bolster Saudi Arabia’s air defence capabilities.
Continuation of Defensive Operations
This latest operation follows an earlier successful interception, during which the Greek Patriot system neutralized two ballistic missiles launched from Yemen toward a critical infrastructure site in the Yanbu area — home to major oil refining facilities and the deployed Greek missile battery.
Military sources described the targeted installation as highly significant, underscoring the strategic importance of the region and the role played by the Greek deployment.
The Hellenic Force in Saudi Arabia continues its operational duties under the international Integrated Air and Missile Defense Concept initiative, supporting the Kingdom’s air and missile defence architecture.
