Greek Parliament: Proposal for Pre-Trial Committee on Tempi Scandal Announced

in

During a plenary session of the Greek Parliament, a proposal was announced regarding the establishment of an investigative committee based on a related proposal by Maria Karystianou and her association dated February 28, 2023. The proposal for a pre-trial investigation into the Tempi scandal has been signed by 32 members of parliament from four political parties—Elliniki Lysi, Niki, Plithos Eleftherias, and independent MPs affiliated with the Democracy Movement. Notably, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and former Infrastructure and Transport Ministers Kostas Karamanlis and Christos Spiridis are among the signatories. In contrast, the proposal submitted by SYRIZA-PS President Socrates Famellos on June 4, which included signatures from 26 SYRIZA MPs and seven independent MPs, was deemed inadmissible after six MPs withdrew their signatures. According to Deputy Speaker Vasilis Violaris, this rendered Famellos’ proposal invalid under Article 154 paragraph 2 of the Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, which requires at least 30 MP signatures for such proposals.
