Greek-Owned Ship Targeted in Red Sea Attack Off Yemen’s Coast – Hit by Firearms, Rockets and Drones

A Greek-owned vessel was targeted earlier on Sunday (06.07.2025) in an attack involving rockets and drones in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen. The ship is now being abandoned by its crew, none of whom are Greek nationals. Initial reports indicate that the vessel was approached by small boats and came under fire with firearms and grenades, prompting the onboard security team to return fire. According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), small boats surrounded the ship and opened fire with light weapons and propelled grenades approximately 95 kilometers southwest of Hodeidah, Yemen. The ship’s armed security team responded to the assault, but the vessel sustained significant damage, forcing the crew to evacuate for safety reasons. Reliable sources report that the attack occurred in two phases: the first wave involved gunfire and rockets, which was countered by the security team. The second wave included an assault by four drones — two of which were shot down, while the remaining two struck the vessel, causing severe damage.
