Greek Orthodox Church Reacts to Art Exhibition at National Gallery

The Greek Orthodox Church has expressed its disappointment regarding the art exhibition titled ‘The Net of the Strange – Intermediate Space’ hosted at the National Gallery. In a press release issued on Tuesday (11.3.25), the Holy Synod conveyed its indirect dissatisfaction with the exhibition and announced that it will request government intervention. The statement reads, ‘Due to the exhibition of artworks titled ‘The Net of the Strange – Intermediate Space’ at the National Gallery, the Holy Synod expressed its regret over the content of certain works in the said exhibition and decided to take necessary actions towards the Greek Government.’ It is worth noting that vandalism occurred shortly after noon when two paintings were damaged during the exhibition. An MP from the Niki party criticized the National Gallery’s choice of exhibition, stating that while the expression was poetic, it did not depict anything offensive. He added that no one is obligated to agree aesthetically or ideologically.
