Greek National Security Council Convenes – Migration, Libya, and Defense Programs on Agenda

The Greek Governmental Council for National Security (KYSEA) concluded its meeting today (02.07.2025) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. During the session, updates and assessments were made regarding recent regional developments, as highlighted by Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesman, Pavlos Marinakis.

Regarding migration, emphasis was placed on the need for cooperation with Libyan authorities to prevent the establishment of a new migratory route from eastern Libya to Crete. The European dimension of the issue was also underscored in view of the upcoming visits to Libya by both Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and EU Commissioner for Migration, Magnus Brunner.

Additionally, defense matters concerning the Hellenic Armed Forces were discussed. Topics included the modernization of the Hellenic Navy’s MEKO frigates, technical support for Army Aviation Apache and NH90 helicopters, and maintenance of C-130 transport aircraft operated by the Hellenic Air Force.
