Greek National Security Advisor Thanos Dokos has become the latest victim of the notorious Russian prankster duo Vovan & Lexus. During what he believed was a secure video call with Rustem Umerov, National Security Advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Dokos discussed sensitive matters—including the recent incident involving a Ukrainian drone detected off the coast of Lefkada.

Russian Imposters Pose as Ukrainian Officials

Vovan and Lexus, known for high-profile impersonation stunts targeting Western officials, posed as Ukrainian government representatives and recorded the conversation. They later published the footage online. In the call, the pranksters suggested the possibility of similar drone incidents recurring near Greek islands—and claimed there were internal disagreements between Ukraine’s presidential office and its Ministry of Defense over military operations against Russian targets.

Dokos Expresses Concern Over Regional Stability

Dokos voiced serious concerns about the implications of such incidents in Greek waters—particularly during the summer tourism season. “It’s peak tourist season, with heightened maritime traffic. We understand the wartime necessities, but we do not want the war spilling over onto our territory or into our territorial waters,” he stated.

He also noted that Greece is heading into national elections within the coming months, warning that another incident could create “very serious problems” for the Greek government. He emphasized that a major diplomatic rift between Greece and Ukraine could undermine NATO and EU unity—underscoring Kyiv’s continued need for unwavering support from all allies.

Media Breaks Story, Dokos to Respond on SKAI

The incident was first reported by Cyprus-based outlet Sigmalive. According to sources, Dokos is scheduled to address the matter publicly on SKAI television tonight (3 July 2026).

PASOK Calls for Dokos’ Immediate Resignation

The opposition PASOK party has demanded Dokos’ resignation, calling the incident “unprecedented.” In a statement, PASOK said: “For hours, a video has circulated showing a recorded conversation between the General Secretary of National Security, Thanos Dokos, and Russian nationals posing as Ukrainian officials. Dokos appears to share assessments regarding Greece’s upcoming elections—including analysis of how the Ukraine issue might affect them—and discloses information about the Director of Greece’s National Intelligence Service (EYP) traveling to Kyiv.”

The party added: “Answers are urgently needed: Is the published audiovisual material authentic? Why hasn’t the government clarified what actually happened? The New Democracy-led ‘government of excellence’ has remained silent for hours over this unprecedented event. Dokos’ resignation is the only viable path forward.”

As of now, the Greek government has not issued an official statement on the matter.
