Exclusive images published by OnAlert.gr reveal the first Greek FDI frigate ‘Kimon’ (F-601) as it departs for its inaugural open sea trial from the Naval Group shipyard in Lorient, France. This marks the initial mechanical system testing of the Belharra-class vessel over a 24-hour period. Forty members of the Hellenic Navy, including officers and enlisted personnel, are onboard to monitor and participate in the trial under the supervision of Naval Group technicians. Following this trial, three extended sea tests will comprehensively evaluate all systems before delivery to the Hellenic Navy by year-end. Simultaneously, additional crew members will arrive in France, bringing the total to 128, including conscripts. The successful trials of the French Belharra-class frigate ‘Amiral Ronarc’h’ serve as a guide for ‘Kimon’s evaluations. When ‘Kimon’ arrives in Greece, it will undergo rigorous assessment by the HNC to achieve full operational status. Emphasis will be placed on training crew members in advanced digital systems. During the launch ceremony of the third Greek frigate ‘Formion’ on June 4, defense leadership will witness ‘Kimon’s near completion and the progress of the other two vessels, all equipped with 32 launchers for Aster 30 missiles and RAM close-in protection systems. Satisfaction within the Naval Staff is high due to the positive results of the trials and the advancements in construction.
