Panic erupted on Sunday evening (22.06.225) after a Greek Orthodox church in Damascus was attacked, resulting in the death and injury of dozens of people. The Greek Foreign Ministry condemned the attack in an official statement. Reports indicate that a man opened fire inside the church while people were praying, followed by a bomb explosion that killed at least 15 individuals. According to the detailed announcement from the Ministry: ‘We unequivocally condemn the heinous terrorist bombing suicide attack on the Greek Orthodox Church of the Prophet Elijah in Damascus, Syria. Religious spaces should never be targets for terrorism. Everyone has the right to practice their faith in absolute peace and security. We demand that the transitional authorities in Syria take immediate action to hold those involved accountable and implement measures ensuring the safety of Christian communities and all religious groups, allowing them to live without fear.
