The Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Gerapetritis, will travel to Benghazi, Libya this Sunday, where he is expected to meet with the head of the Libyan National Army, Khalifa Haftar. According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gerapetritis will visit Benghazi on July 6th for high-level talks. On Tuesday, July 15th, the minister will also visit Tripoli for meetings with officials.
In a recent interview, Minister Gerapetritis emphasized that Greece will never engage in competitive bidding in Libya and reaffirmed the country’s commitment as a reliable partner that strongly defends international law and invests in multidimensional diplomacy from Africa to the Aegean Sea.
He noted that Greece has never abandoned this critical region. ‘Turkey is very active in Libya and more broadly in Africa, pursuing clearly expansionist policies. However, we have never left Libya behind. Instead, we have successfully restored relations, activating communication channels with both sides. Very soon, I will visit both Eastern and Western Libya,’ he stated.
