Tourism is big business in Greece. Each year, millions are attracted to the country’s ancient monuments and sunny beaches. The sector is one of the largest industries, and employs one in five Greeks. But in Athens the number of visitors this year is already down by 20 per cent. Nicole Itano assesses the impact the global crisis has had on Greek tourism.
