In a deeply moving atmosphere, the Lamentation Service began, followed by the Orthros of Great Saturday. Across every corner of Greece, the evening of Great Friday will see the procession of the Epitaph. During the Lamentation Service, three famous Encomia are chanted, with the most well-known being: “The Life in the Tomb…”, “It is Truly Worthy to Magnify…”, “All Generations…”. Live coverage from the Athens Metropolitan Church features the Lamentation Service and the Epitaph Procession. Hundreds of faithful gathered from early morning at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens to venerate the Epitaph. Later in the evening, they will form a grand procession carrying the Epitaph through the streets of central Athens. In most areas, the Epitaph Procession begins after 8:00 PM.
