Following another memorial gathering in central Athens for the 57 victims who lost their lives two years ago, on Thursday (13.02.2025), a grand concert was organized in Syntagma Square. The concert is set to begin at 7 PM with numerous artists taking the stage to perform their hits in memory of the 57 victims of the tragic train collision in Tempi on February 28, 2023. Athenian student unions called for a large concert titled: ‘A Song for the Children Lost on the Trains… We’ll Reach the End! Either Their Profits or Our Lives.’ Among the artists participating are Rita Antonopoulou & Revan, Myrto Vasileiou, Matoula Zamanee, Thodoris Thodoridis, Zoografos and Ghetto Rock, Polyxeni Karakoglu, Alexandros Ktistakis, Dimitris Mitsotakis, Natassa Bofiliou, Apostolos Rizos, Babo Koro, Kinderia, To Sfalma, Hyperastikoi, Tiny Jackal x Raibo, Lef Kay (on dexx). In their call, the students stated: ‘The Student Unions of Athens continue the grand protests regarding the crime in Tempi. We invite students to participate massively in the memorials held by Student Unions, labor organizations, and initiatives by the victims’ families, fulfilling our promise that we will not allow this crime to be covered up, and we will fight until the end.’ The student march in Athens started at noon from the Propylaea, emphasizing that ‘justice is given by the people,’ while a similar event was also called for in Thessaloniki at the Venizelos monument. Metro stations including Syntagma and University will remain closed this morning following police orders. According to an official announcement by STASY, the University metro station will close at 9 AM, and Syntagma at 10 AM, with trains passing without stopping. In Thessaloniki, the metro stations ‘New Railway Station,’ ‘Venizelou,’ and ‘Sindrivani’ will remain closed from 11 AM due to police directives.
