Government vs PASOK Clash Over Karoni Report: ND Claims Triantopoulos’ Accusation Weakened

in

The government launched a fierce attack on the opposition, particularly PASOK, following the release of the National Metsovion Polytechnic’s report (Karoni report) regarding the role of silicone oils in creating the fireball during the tragic accident. The government criticized the political parties for basing two motions of censure on conspiracy theories that have been repeatedly debunked. The focus was mainly on Harilalou Trikoupis and Nikos Androulakis, who initiated a motion of no confidence against the government based on EODASAM estimates in February. Government spokesperson Paulos Marinakis accused PASOK of using speculative information from EODASAM rather than waiting for official judicial expertise. He stated that PASOK ‘hung themselves by their own petard’ and collaborated with other parties to file a baseless motion of no confidence. The New Democracy party believes that accusations against former Deputy Transport Minister Christos Triantopoulos are weakening based on the report. The government sees this as an opportunity to restore public trust through initiatives like modernizing the Greek railway system and implementing safety systems across the network. Meanwhile, voices within New Democracy caution that handling the case of former Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis will be crucial for electoral success.
