Europe could soon welcome a wave of wealthy Americans, as they face Donald Trump’s election as a negative and are considering moving abroad. Interest in what has been said has increased sharply among their citizens since the elections, according to a CNN report. It is noted that Golden Visa allows people to effectively buy foreign citizenship or stay through significant investments, including in real estate, government bonds or new business. Henley & Partners said investigations by U.S. nationals through its website increased by nearly 400% a week of election compared to last week. However, many of the citizens do not intend to move permanently. “Most Americans focus on having the choice,” Dominic Volek, head of Henley & Partners, said. Arton Capital, another investment firm for immigration, said she received much more than 100 relative questions the day after Trump’s victory, five times more than the typical daily average. Options for affluent Americans Timeless, programs such as golden visa have drawn interest from economic elite countries considered emerging such as China, South Africa, Nigeria, the Philippines and India. Some of these countries face high levels of political and economic instability and thus the rich seek to avoid these situations through moving to another country. Another incentive is the desire to obtain a second passport immediately that ensures many visa-free travel options. Until the pandemic, American citizens were not a significant share in the gold visa market. Demand, however, has gradually increased with political division and social tension in the United States supporting interest, according to a report by Henley & Partners published earlier this year. As of 2020, United States nationals have been the largest group of applicants in the company for investment migration programmes. Research into gold visas from Americans has increased by 33% so far this year compared to the same period last year, with projects in Europe being the most sought after. What about the poorest civilians? The cost of the golden visa is certainly inaccessible to most Americans. However, in recent times, social networking platforms have increasingly been discussing alternative ways of moving abroad. Indicatively, a YouTube video titled “Country for Americans who want to leave the US”, which was posted less than two weeks ago has more than half a million views and 4,000 comments, including from Americans who say they are exploring options to move directly abroad. In Reddit, a post entitled “Immigration after the results of the American elections” has received 1,300 comments in less than two weeks. In a Reddit LGBTQ team, a user wrote just before the election that he and his husband feel that “the departure from the US may be necessary if Trump finally wins”. Flannery Foster, an American who lives in Spain and helps other Americans travel, work, or study abroad, has heard many similar stories in recent times. Offers for dissatisfied voters In the wake of Donald Trump’s victory, some companies in Europe already seek to benefit financially from American citizens, who are unhappy with the election result. A cruise company gives Americans the option to travel for up to four whole years. Villa Vie Residences announced earlier in November that it is launching a special package that will allow travelers to travel on its ship for the next few years, boarding from any port passing the cruise. The ship is expected to be found in 425 ports and 140 countries while costing less than $40,000 per year, the company announced. The offer is divided into packages of one, two, three and four years old. Among other things, it includes stops in the Caribbean, South America and a trip to Antarctica. Meanwhile, in a village in Sardinia, where homes have long been sold for just one euro, Americans seem to be welcome. As in many other places in the province of Italy, the village of Olali has long tried to persuade foreigners to move to revive the region’s economy. Now, after the outcome of the American election, the village is addressed to aspiring Americans who want to leave the country calling on them to seize the opportunity and buy a house in Sardinia. “Are you worried about the global political situation? Are you looking for a more balanced way of life while ensuring new opportunities? It’s time to create your European escape in the amazing paradise of Sardinia,” it is listed on the website.
