Global Sumud Flotilla: 11 Greek Activists Begin Hunger Strike After Detention

Eleven members of the Greek delegation participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla have launched a hunger strike following their illegal detention by Israeli authorities. In a statement, they declared that their action is not a personal choice but a collective stance against ongoing crimes committed against the Palestinian people and the continuous violation of international law. They refuse to recognize the illegal blockade of Gaza or Israel’s so-called right to seize vessels and people in international waters. “Our presence here, our arrest, and now our hunger strike are all part of the same message: Palestine is not alone, and solidarity cannot be imprisoned,” they stated. The activists demand the immediate release of all flotilla members and denounce any charges—such as those under Israel’s anti-terrorism law—as false and politically motivated attempts to criminalize international solidarity. They place full responsibility on the Israeli state for any harm, disappearance, or loss of communication with detainees. Furthermore, they highlight the complicity of international and Greek authorities in enabling occupation, blockade, and genocide through weapons deals, economic agreements, and political cover. Calling for global mobilization, they urge complete isolation of Israel and stand in unwavering support for a free Palestine. “In response to those who use starvation as a weapon of war against two million people, a hunger strike is the least we can do from within their cells to keep the voice of resistance alive.”
