Germany Warns Russia: New Sanctions Incoming If Ukraine Ceasefire Not Achieved By Day’s End

Germany has emerged as the first among four countries that participated in the Kyiv meeting on Saturday (10.50.2025) to reiterate their decision to impose stricter sanctions on Russia if an unconditional ceasefire is not accepted. Today (12.05.2025), Germany warned of new sanctions against Russia if a ceasefire is not achieved by the end of Monday. The German government announced that if a ceasefire has not taken hold in Ukraine by the end of today, Berlin, along with its European partners, will begin preparing a new package of sanctions against Moscow. ‘Time is running out. There are twelve hours until the end of the day,’ stated the German government spokesperson, Stephan Cornelius. It should be noted that last Saturday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merts, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited Kyiv and met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. As a result of this meeting, which included a phone call with Donald Trump, a proposal was made for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine starting from today, Monday. This proposal was also accepted by the U.S., as confirmed by Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine, Kit Kellogg; however, the American president subsequently called on Ukraine to sit at the negotiating table with Russia.
