Shock has swept northern Germany following a deadly shooting at a mother-and-child shelter in Stade, where six people were killed. A video recently published by German tabloid Bild captures the moment two main suspects were arrested — showing their car speeding before being cornered by police in a roadblock.
The Arrest Footage
The footage shows the suspects’ vehicle accelerating until the driver realizes it’s trapped. The car stops abruptly, and within seconds, heavily armed officers surround it, ordering the occupants to exit. Two men comply, lie down on the ground, and are taken into custody.
The Attack and Its Toll
The shooting occurred near a daycare center — a detail reported by Germany’s public broadcaster ZDF. At the time, several children were outside with their parents after school dismissal, heightening public alarm.
According to authorities, five victims — four women and one man — died at the scene. A sixth person later succumbed to injuries in hospital, bringing the official death toll to six. Several others remain hospitalized in critical condition, and officials warn the number of fatalities could rise.
Investigation Updates
Initially, two individuals were arrested; investigators believe one is the primary shooter. Shortly afterward, a third suspect was taken into custody, though their level of involvement remains under investigation.
Early reports cited by Der Spiegel suggest investigators are exploring whether the attack stemmed from personal grievances — potentially classifying it as a ‘crime of passion’. So far, no evidence points to political or extremist motives.
