German authorities have launched an investigation into a shooting and stabbing incident at a school in Bavaria that left four people injured, according to reports from Der Spiegel. The attack occurred on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, at the Welfen school complex in Schongau — a town located southwest of Munich.

Suspect Identified, Two Students Seriously Injured

The alleged perpetrator is a 16-year-old boy who entered the school armed with both a knife and a firearm. Using the knife, he seriously wounded two 13-year-old female students. Both girls are now hospitalized and reported to be out of danger.

Arrest and Emergency Response

The suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended shortly afterward at a nearby sports center. Authorities believe he acted alone. A large-scale police operation unfolded at the scene, involving hundreds of officers and emergency responders, as well as six rapid-response helicopters. Initial reports indicated gunfire, prompting the extensive deployment. One helicopter was ultimately used to transport the injured.

Motive Under Investigation

Investigators are currently examining whether a family dispute may have served as the motive behind the attack.
