One person has been seriously injured during a hostage situation at a bank in Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany, where a major police operation is underway. According to a German police spokesperson, a man armed with a knife is believed to be involved — though it remains unclear whether he is still inside the building. Residents have been urged to avoid the area surrounding the bank.

Special police units and a police helicopter were dispatched to the scene. The spokesperson told Germany’s dpa news agency that the suspect’s motives remain unknown and that, as of now, no demands have been made to authorities.
