Germany: New train strike – 80% of routes cancelled

Previously Germany’s train drivers had refused a new call from employers for negotiations, but it was not accompanied by an improved offer. According to the union’s announcement, in freight transport the strike will begin at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 11th and will also last 24 hours. Up to now, 80% of train routes across the country have been cancelled in corresponding mobilisations. The central demand of train workers is the reduction from 2028 of working hours from 38 to 35 hours a week with full earnings and the one-off payment of an “inflation compensation” of EUR 3,000.
