The terrorist’s perpetrator remains missing at the Zolingen Festival on Friday (23.08. 24), resulting in three people losing their lives and four struggling in the hospital. Police do not see at the moment “no other motive but terrorism, ” said prosecutor Marcus Caspers, who is investigating the knife attack at the Zolingen Festival. During a press conference on the case, police director Torsten Fleish also confirmed the information that the slayer targeted specifically at the neck of his victims, which had initially been denied. Fleis also clarified that so far there is no image of the perpetrator, which could be used in the investigation to locate him, but “a lot of evidence is being investigated and a lot of material is constantly received”. Answering questions about a second arrest of a possible suspect, the police spokesman avoided disproving or confirming and asked for the understanding of citizens, “until we compose an image that is as close to the facts as possible.” He also noted that there are different and conflicting testimonies regarding the appearance of the perpetrator and the police are making an effort to arrive at a reliable and as specific a description as possible. Referring to the victims and the wounded, Mr. Fleish stated that the dead are a 67-year-old man, a 56-year-old and a 56-year-old woman, while four are fighting for their lives and that the perpetrator will face charges of at least three homicides and many attempts. At dawn a 15-year-old was arrested, who eventually proved not to be the perpetrator of the attack, but there was information that before the attack he was talking to someone who described the plans of the attack. The crime scene has so far been found “more than one knife”, which are examined by the competent police services, which have been available to them and visual material from the attack. Asked if he would recommend that the citizens of Zolingen remain at their homes as long as it is not certain that the perpetrator has been arrested, Vupertal police chief Marcus Rell stressed that “we should each decide whether to go to a football match or to use local means of transport.”
