Germany: Climate Activists Blocked 4 Airports and Stop flights

With glue, they stuck their hands on one’s asphalt to activists in order to react to climate destruction. The protest by the 8 activists of the “Last Generation” organization was targeted by four German airports. Two of them temporarily suspended their flights for today (15.08.2024). ‘8 activists discontinued or restricted flight activity at Berlin, Cologne/ Bonn, Nuremberg and Stuttgart,” the organization announced. Social media published photos of their action, showing activists stuck hands with glue on the airport asphalt, but without breaking the take-off and landing corridors. Nuremberg Airport suspended flights for about an hour because of activists, resulting in six flights being delayed, one being cancelled and another being diverted to another airport. Cologne Airport/ Bonn, flights are normally performed after 08.25 Greek time, after stopping earlier today, while there are still expected to be some delays. Stuttgart airport did not affect flight activity as the two people blocking an auxiliary runway were immediately arrested. At Berlin airport two protesters were removed who had broken into an airport security area by violating a fence. Flight activity was not affected. The Last Generation organization has stated that similar actions will be taken in several countries in Europe and North America in order to force Germany to conclude a global agreement to end the use of oil, gas and coal by 2030. “The criminal actions of protesters are dangerous and foolish,” German Interior Minister Nancy Fezer told X (formerly Twitter). — Nancy Faeser (@NancyFaeser) “The ministry has proposed strict prison sentences for such actions and obliges airports to proceed with significant improvements in the safety of their facilities,” he added to the suspension.
