Germany calls on citizens to turn underground into shelters due to tension with Russia

The tension with it has led to cold war tactics with the interior ministry drawing up a list of shelters that could be used by citizens in an emergency. The list includes underground railway stations and car parks, as well as state buildings and private properties, such as the… undergrounds as announced by a representative of the interior ministry in Germany after increasing tension with Russia. At the same time, a special application is planned to inform the citizen of the nearest shelter based on its location, said a representative of the ministry. Bild reported earlier today (25/11/2024) that this plan comes in response to the deterioration of the international geopolitical situation. However, the representative of the German Interior Ministry did not mention the international situation nor did he provide a clear timetable for implementation of the plan. Currently there are 579 public shelters in Germany which are intended for the purposes of civil protection with a capacity of about 480,000. Germany has increasingly strengthened its defence in recent years, especially since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and the subsequent geopolitical tensions in Europe.
